Translating Imperative Sentences from English into Indonesian: COVID-19 Outbreak Text

The imperative sentences in the source language are categorized as instructions. World health organization instructs general population not to over-take information when reading or searching for about Corona Virus Disease 2019 because it affects our mentality. It also avoid using unhelpful coping strategies. structure rules English and Indonesian different. This paper aims explore translation techniques used translating ‘Mental psychosocial considerations during COVID-19 outbreak’ text into Indonesian. authors use Molina Albir’s (2002) techniques. Data collection is done by taking twenty-three imperatives of thirty text. SL which have infinitive verbs without followed a noun, verb-ing, past participle, adjective, second person reflexive pronoun. found suffix -lah emphasize verb TL. Twenty-two data consist positive one negative sentence. results show that from data, there were six translators, namely: compensation, establish equivalent, reduction, transposition, literal, modulation. literal mostly, starting point at initial sentence they readable meaning target language. readers more acceptable understand context They expected implement instructions their daily lives.
